The name of the new city to be added to the list of Gulf Coast tourist sites is Memphis.
The Memphis tourism board said Wednesday it approved the name “Memphis” to be used for the newly formed tourism and development area in the city.
The designation means the Memphis area is considered to be the fourth-most visited in the U.S., behind Miami, San Francisco and New York City.
The area will include a shopping center, hotel, amusement park and a hotel.
The name change will be effective on July 1, the board said.
